I have always heard that the name was Irish.I have also heard that it was a variant of Darnley and that the family was asked to move to America because they were Jacobites who supported Bonny Prince Charlie or James (one of those heirs to the throne who were dethroned and didn't take it well.)LDS has a website on Danley which says that the first Danley came from Ireland. I don't know if the name was originally Irish or if it was imported by the first Danley to move to Ireland. There is a school in Kent, England named the Danley School and the school is named after the farm on which it is built Dane Lee. This could be anyhting from a person's name to a name which means Dane's Meadow. I tried searching for the name on an Irish site, but it isn't listed as an Irish name nor does it appears to be a variant. At least, not that I have found.
