According to my father W.W. Dansby Jr. who has done exhaustive research on both sides of the Atlantic, the original Dansby who was most definately a Dane without question, was shipped from England (Portsmith, maybe) as a forced colonist or indentured servant round about the late 1600's to the island of Barbados. The English were in great need of colonists for their expanding empire. This was probably the result of being captured as a prisoner of war of English Forces (probably James or Cromwell). He could have been fighting as a mercenary or "draftee" but was not so lucky at that. After capture he was held at Newgate Prison to await trial and sentancing/transportation.
I have personally been to Barbados and seen the old original plantation site in Christchurch owned by John Dansby.
