Samuel Dansby of Texas
Posted by: Don Watson Date: July 16, 1999 at 18:02:01

I am seeking ANY information on Samuel Dansby who married Serena Anne Johnson on Oct. 23, 1853 in Washington County, Texas. Together they appear on some deed records in Brazos County. Samuel died in 1854 before the birth of his daughter Gertrude. Serena soon moved with her family to Comal County, Texas and married John Marion Watson in Comal county on August 13, 1857. Together John and Serena had 9 children. John and Serena were my Gr-gr-grandparents.

Gertrude (it is not known if she took the name of Watson and/or was adopted by John Watson or not) as an adult married Rector C. Hope, her cousin, the son of Richard Hope and Emily F. Johnson, Serena's sister. Gertrude and Rector had four children, two of which died very young. Gertrude died in 1882 leaving three of her children and husband as survivors. For reasons not fully known, John Watson was appointed as the children's guardian and before the legal proceedings were complete, one of the children had died. John and Serena raised the two surviving children.

All I know of Samuel Dansby is what I have mentioned here. I am certain that he is related to the other Dansby's of Brazos / Washington County area, just have not been able to find anything more of him. Hope you might have something.

Thanks...Don Watson
