D'Antoni Family Genealogy Forum

My family always said, Dan-toni. My grandmother as a widow ran a fruit and vegetable store in what is now downtown. I was told she got her supplies from the DeAngelo family here and they got it shipped from the D'Antoni family in New Orleans - She was a D'Antoni. The article states: D'Antoni Named Honarary Head. Carmelo D'Antoni, 89 year old pioneer in the banana business has been elected honorary chairman of the board of directors of Standard Fruit and Steamship Co. D'Antoni has been associated with the banana industry since the turn of the century and has been a member of Standard's board since the company's organization as a corporation in 1926, etc. The other obituary states" Died, Carmelo D'Antoni, 89, one of the founders of Standard Fruit and Steam ship Co, in Hotel Dieu (hospital). This all happened when he was 89 yrs old. I have no idea what year my sister cut this out of the paper. You can post a question on the genealogy chat line at the N.O. newspaper. Joy
