If Doe is a derivative of Daoust, then perhaps the name DEAO is also? I am searching for Eli Deao, born 1824 in New York. I'm asking everyone on this board to kindly check their files for any Eli born about 1824, with any last name that could possibly be a match.I've worked on this for years, and I believe I have everything that's on the Internet with this name, beginning in 1850 with his marriage in Stark Co. Illinois to Mary Ann Simmerman. What I can't find is where Eli was before 1850, as there must have been a name change. He's also missing between the 1880 census (he was counted in Iowa) and 1899 (when he died in Iowa). He's not on the Iowa 1885 or 1895 state census on Ancestry.
Eli reared a large family, including a son Orlando born in 1855 inIllinois. I thought perhaps Orlando would be a name to consider as a possible first name for Eli's father or an uncle.
I'd be grateful for any bit of advice you could send my way. Thank you - Kathleen
