John Darland was the son of Isaac Darland and his wife Jenny Wilson. He was born in Nicholasville, Ky, Jassimine Co KY May 30, 1805, came with his parents to Preble Co Ohio in 1810 and reamined there until he married Martha Bealtey April 22, 1839. It appears that he had an earlier marriage to Mary Campbell in Preble Co. He then moved to Wayne Co Indiana for a period of time, later moving to Darke Co, Harrison Twp, Ohio and was still living in 1865.

Isaac was the son of Johannes and Catrina Van Liew Dorlandt from Somerset Co NJ and Berkley Co WVA. He was born ca. 1772-1779. He had siblings: Lambert b. 1763, Johannes b. 1765, Garret 1767 twin sisters Margarita and Catharine b. 1770 and brother Abraham born after 1772. Only Lambert who married Martha Van Arsdale and lived in Bourbon and Mercer/Anderson Co Ky before moving to Parke Co Indiana, Abraham who lived in Bourbon and Nicholas Co Ky and Margarita who married a William Maxwell in Bourbon are well known.
