accidental death at hartlepool new docks.
on wednesday evening an inquest was held at the hartlepool borough hall, before mr coroner settle, on view of the body of hugh darley, aged 50, who met with his death on the preceding day from a fall of earth at the new docks. it appeared that they were engaged in excavating for a fall of about fourteen feet long by ten feet deep, after the 'gaffer' examined the ground. as it was apparently safe they 'holed' it about one and a half to two feet, when it suddenly felland buried the deceased who was extricated as soon as possible and conveyed to the hospital where he died in a few hours. deceased had been cautioned shortly before the occurrence. the jury returned a verdict that deceased was accidently killed by a fall of earth.
