Hello

My husband is the son of Ida Booth nee Darlington. Her grandfather was William Darlington born 1870 in Little Lever who was the eldest son of Adam.

Family legend has it that Adam was killed by a rock falling from the roof in the pit with William standing along side him.

It is also known that Adam was referred to as "Adam the poacher". He was apparently well known for this activity and if the Police wanted to interview him they would even wait while he finished his tea before taking him into custody. In Little Lever there are two canals known respectively as the "the top cut" and "the bottom cut". Adam could jump the bottom cut from a standing jump at it's narrowest point which even so must have been quite an achievement. Hope this is of some interest.

Regards

Margaret Booth
