I would not know how the family ended up in Old Town except to say that it was employment. Just as I could not connect, YET, this John Binette...Surely he was Jean. Please email to my address the Dermody file that you have including your family. Bob Chenard indicated to me in another correspondence that there were many Dermody at Old Town.

Have you recovered a birth certificate for James Albert? He may not be descendant from this Portneuf family but may be a relative as the origin of the family is St. John's, Newfoundland. The other object to keep in mind is that the records would have also recorded "Darmody" as the spelling.

Once I have a look at your file we can correspond via email until we have something to post.
