Gaylon (Galand) Lafayette Darnall
My grandmother's ( Mabel Darnall Whitehead) grandfathers name was Gaylon Lafayette Darnall (I have since heard he may have been called "Bud")I found a death certificate online that says Galand L. Darnall. Wife Mandy Darnall He had a farm in Fulton County, KY in the bottom area. I have a picture on it's way to me of Gaylon and his wife on the levee in Fulton County, KY during the flood of 1912. They are surrounded by cows and pigs and in the background you can see the boys on a barn roof.(Jeff,Jay and James Walter). There is a copy of it in the Wildlife Sanctuary at Reelfoot Lake.Gaylon's second wife was Fannie Mae (although no one is for sure if they were married or
not) and they had 3 more children. Dixie Emma Darnall (Simmer), Hazel Darnall, and J.W. Darnall. It is thought that Gaylon and family had come down from Brandonburg or Calloway county? Jeff and his family had a farm right down from Gaylon's. Around Island #9 area. Jeff (and wife) Darnall are buried at Sassafras Ridge(in the bottom) with a stone Gaylon and Mandy areburied there also but do not have stones left so no-one is for sure exactly where they are in the cemetery. Several of Jeff’s siblings are also there but some stones say Darnell.
We had a family reunion in July and the cousins could remember being told that Gaylon tried to hire someone to kill one of his own sons and there was a story about it in the Hickman Courier.I haven’t been able to locate this story anywhere. Have you ever seen anything like this in your research?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
