Dart, D'Arce, D'Arcy, Dorsey, Darcy, Dorsett, and
Hello,
Let me first say hello to you and all the rest of my family descendants.
Many of you have a long way to go, so let me share with you that which I have learned.
Dart is the variation of D'Arce for English and D'Arcy for French.Same but different.
Richard is also my ancestor and relates back to Edward III, King of England in 1322.
I will only give you a short of my family and then a site that has plenty of information for you.
The way my family spelled the name down thru the years is Dorsey.Others like yourselves have one of the other ways.I wouldn't have realized the DART if it didn't show every time I write both of the D'... names I mentioned when I use spell check when just sending an email.
Other names I have found along the way are spelled:
Darcy
Dorsey
Dorcas
Dabney
Darby
Dorsett
Darce
Dumas
Durr
Dorr
Dacus and more, I just forget.
When any of you get to Charles, Silas, and my gg-grandmother, Rhoda Dorsey b 1826 married a Thomas Chandler Woolley, drop me a line.Better yet, if any of you should find the parents of Hannah Wooley married to a Charles Dorsey, I sure would love to know. That is bugging me I can't find them.
Thomas Chandler and Rhoda Dorsey m 1844 in Shelby Co., OH and I have a list of their children. One of them George Herbert Woolley is my g-grandfather b 1854 m Neal/Neely/etc b 1855, then came Daniel Lee Woolley, my grandfather of whom I can't find.Daniel's wife Eurilla died in 1934 in Lima, Allen County, OH in 1934.I know Daniel went to Toledo, OH but seems to have vanished after that.
Now for the site I promised, http://www.barnum.org/surnames.htmhttp://www.barnum.org/surnames.htm
Have lots of fun, and remember to use soundex names and other spelling variations if you wish for success. Not all of the family is listed there, but more keeps getting added all the time.Be sure to email the site master to add your families to help all of us.
I think he has a wonderful site. He's a working man, so don't everyone rush him, but send him the info.
I sent you to the surnames first, be sure to check his home site too.
Another bit of information I wish to express, is the surnam Barnum has been spelled many ways.
Should any of you have information for the Barnum family, especially that of Elizabeth Willey and Bethuel Barnum with their daughter Rebecca Barnum, I would love to know more about her too.She too married a Neal/O'Neall/etc.
Happy Hunting.
