Ernestine Bertha Hoenes Dart Obit
MANITOU BEACH — Ernestine Bertha Hoenes Dart of Manitou Beach passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Lynwood Manor after a year and a half of bad health. Ernestine was born April 25, 1917, in Adrian to Matthew and Bertha (Stark) Hoenes. She married Elbert D. Dart in 1933, and he preceded her in death in 1973.
She lived most of her married life in the Round Lake area and then continued to live in the Manitou Beach area throughout her life. Tina worked all her adult life and raised six children and several foster children, one being Velda Scott of Addison. She got her G.E.D. when she was 50 years old and went to work for the state at the Girls Training School in Adrian and retired in 1983 from The Half Way House for boys in Jackson, Mich.
Upon her retirement, she bought a van and traveled throughout the United States with her sisters, even taking a trip to Alaska and Europe. Her life was her children and grandchildren and the Addison Senior Center, where she played the organ for 25 years. She will be greatly missed by all. She was a member of the Addison United Church. She received many awards for her services at the Senior Center and through the state. Tina lived a very colorful life.
Surviving are six children, Raymond and Jerry Dart of Manitou Beach, Robert Dart and friend Peggy Stanifer of Jasper, Mich., Daniel Dart of Story, Arkansas, Dennis and Debbie Dart of Wake Forrest, North Carolina, Mike Dart of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and Christine Uden and friend John Biggerstaff of Manitou Beach; daughter-in-laws Anne and Sarah Wild of Pleasant Lake, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert, in 1973; one infant great-granddaughter; four sisters, Hazel, Dora, Ethel, and Mary; and three brothers, Edward, Barney and Fred.
She has donated her body to the University of Michigan Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison.
