My mother's cousin Sophie posted information on my mother's half-siblings Jane, James, Thelma, and Homer Darwin of York, SC. Sadly, Uncle Homer died childless in 2001 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. My mother predeceased him. She lived in Clover, SC. She was Martin Darwin's daughter with Mary Keith Castillo, whom he married after the mother of the four half-siblings died. She had three children by her first husband, whose first name I do not know. Mary was from Georgetown, SC. The children were Ramon Juan(known as Raymond), Donald, and Myrtle Castillo, all deceased. My mother, Margaret Darwin, had one full brother, James Bland Darwin, who is still living. There was a child, Helen Good, by James, Jane, Thelma, and Homer's mother and her first husband. After Grandfather's first wife died, he had to put the children as boarders at the Episcopal Church Home, then an orphanage, in York, as he could not work and also care for them, and apparently had no family able to help out. My widowed grandmother I think was working at the Home, trying to support her children, and met Grandfather there when he came to visit his children. They married and continued to live at the orphanage, where Grandfather managed the Home farm. Aunt Helen Good (who was really no relation to my mother) worked as a housemother at the orphanage for many years. Thelma lived in York as well, and the two lived together in their elder years. Neither ever married or had children. My mother married Ernest Archie Perry of Winder, Georgia. They moved to Clover in York County, SC after WWII. I have two sisters, Mary Keith Perry Clark, and Kathryn Lynn Perry Dickson Strohl (she married twice). I am Elizabeth Hope Perry DuBose ( born March 13, 1949) and I married John Kennedy DuBose Jr. of Waycross, Georgia( born March 20, 1948) in 1971. My children are John Kennedy DuBose III born June 13, 1979 and James Darwin DuBose born August 2, 1981 ( named for my grandfather, whom I never met because he died before I was born, or shortly after). Both of my children were born in Camden, SC, where my husband and I still live. Neither of my children has married yet. My sister Mary has two male children, and Kathryn has one daughter. Arthur Bland Darwin has a son, Keith Darwin. The above information about the family is from my own knowledge and from my mother's stories about the family, and I would love to have her information confirmed or corrected by other family members. She was known to embroider a story from time to time. I can provide more dates after I visit my family home in Clover and dig out the family Bible and genealogy. I would also like to know more about the Castillo branch. I have some Castillo cousins still living but have lost touch with them.
