G.C.Cowan was grandson of William Darwin of Louisa Co. VA (1707-86) and Jane Wilkinson or Wilkerson (1715-90) via James Darwin (1744-1825) and Mary Cowan (1746-1818); father James lived for a time in York District SC as did younger brother John (my ancestor), both these brothers fought in Rev War (John has pension applic in National Archives). Much more on this family if anyone interested, please e-mail
and happy hunting
