I started this forum about a yr ago. It is great to find another British Darwood. I write to the wife of one who is from that area origianlly but now lives in Halifax. (I also write a lady in Nottinghamshire descended fromthis line - she has two siblings.) They are directly descended from the same line as mine - the Sarah Darwood and Richard Darwood who married in 1779 in the Wimblington/Doddington area of Cambridgeshiure. The man in Halifax also descends from the Henry Darwood who was born in Ramsey, St Marys, Hunts., in 1849 and who moved to Norfolk and back and forth into Cambridgeshire in his later yrs.
This Henry is descended through John (christened 1799), the son of Richard (b 1754), and Sarah (b 1759) Darwood, who were married in 1779. I am descended from the same Richard and Sarah (Sarah was a Darwood even before her marriage to Richard Darwood in 1779 - her father was a John or Jonathon Darwood in the Benwick/Wimblington area). My ancestor was one of their older sons, David Darwood, christened in Benwick in 1792 with a brother Thomas - but as David was age 70 in 1850 on the Henderson Co., Ky census he was born in aobut 1880/81. My David Darwood came to the USA in about 1848 and settled in the KY/Indiana area aroudn Henderson Co., KY. His son Richard was my g-g grandfather!!!
I am also in contact by e-mail with the Washington State Darwoods who descend from Arthur Darwood - who was the son of Matthew Darwood - Arthur and brother Wm. were b.in Ramey, St Marys, Hunts. and then moved to Upwood, Hunts. where they are on the 1891 census with their families. Arthur was the father of the Stanley and Wilfred who went to Washington state in the US in the early 1900s!!!! That Matthew Darwood's father seems to be John who was married to Elizabeth in Doddinton, Cambridgeshire in 1818 and moved to Chatteris by 1841 (this appears ot be the same John as the one above??) What do you have on this line?
You can write direct to me at <email@example.com>, but also please post on this forum as well for the others.
Thank you so much for posting!! A. Celeste Holly
