My great grandmother, Ina Virginia Dovenspeck Stevenson McQuiston's father was James (Dovenspeck) Daubenspeck who was born in Ky. James was born ca. 1815. James's father was also born in Ky. I'm reasonably certain James's parents were John and Mary Jane York. James was a wanderer going from Ky. to Indiana where he married his first wife, Eliza Cook and had three Children, Nelson John, Barbara or Barbery, and Nancy Wiffiford, his wife died about 1845. These three children were raised by their mother's parents. James married again and had my great grandmother, Ina Virginia who was born ca.1848 in St. Louis Mo. as was her mother. Ina's mother must have died soon after she was born as he shows up in Ca. in 1860 married to an Emily and has two small boys (age 7 & 4) but Ina, who would be ca. 12 wasn't with them. Did James leave her to be raised with her maternal grandparents? James died between 1870 where he is in Napa Co. Ca. & 1880 where Emily and boys are living in Chico, Butte Co. Ca. According to the will of Nelson John Dovenspeck (Daubenspeck) Ina is his half sister as are the two boys plus the two sisters he has. So the information from James to present is correct but I need to prove James to be son of John and Mary Jane to connect the family line. I haven't found the exact date of James death or a death cert. that states who his parents are. Does anyone have any information that could help? Please contact me.
