If you've found that cousin who has done the extensive geneology work, I'd love to get in touch with him/her. In the course of writing my memoirs, I found the outline of my father's family history, which is absolutely scandalous! My parents evidently thought it was interesting enough (it is!) to get as much of it down on paper as they could before dad died. He died in July 1942, when I was just over a year old, so I'm extremely grateful for what they left for me!

I know my paternal grandfather's name was George Ludwig Dauber. The name was changed to Deuber by the time my dad was born in 1900, probably because "Dauber" had so much scandal attached to it. According to my paternal grandmother, the family fought in every war (including the Revolutionary War) through WWI. The information I have is incomplete, but the story is so good that I want to turn it into a fictionalized novel.

There is also a mention of a William Ludwig Dauber, my father's uncle, I think. German ancestry; grandparents fled Germany to escape from oppression and militarism in Europe. Paternal grandmother (Jenny (Genevieve?) Lowrey Dauber Hurlburt) would never have admitted that ANYONE in the family had fought with mercenaries--she was an infamous liar, among other things.

I know my father, Francis (Frank) William Deuber, was either born in or lived in Aspenwall, PA, just northeast of Pittsburg. The family moved around a lot, since Jenny created such a scandal everywhere they lived. They might very well have made it into NW Ohio, and some possibly could have ended up in or near Columbus. Paternal great-grandmother was Caroline Dauber.

There is a lot more information in the 16 single-spaced pages of notes and two completed chapters my family left, but I haven't yet really begun to research the relationships/generations, etc.

I'd love to hear from anyone who recognizes any of the above names, or has any knowledge about this particular branch of the family.
