Someone with a construction or architectural background is familiar with the term daub and wattle.
Basically, it is a form of plastering.....the daub being the plaster and the wattle being the wood thatching to which the daub was applied.
A dauber was one who was a plasterer.
2) An alternative meaning is from DAUBE, the stave in a barrel. A Dauber was one who made the staves which were later assembled by the KUFREI or cooper to form a barrel.
I have an ancestor, a MERKEL, who in the 700's is referred to as a dauber.........or one who made staves for a barrel. His family was associated with nine consecutive generations of barrel making.
