Hi Jack,
My maiden name is Dawber. My great great grandfather was the first to change the spelling from Dauber ( only probably because he couldn't write). My grandmother remembers him, she is 94, and he was George ( born Leopold in Lincoln 1856)My father was always told that the family came from Wigan but my research led me to Licolnshire. The unusual forenames in the family are Arnell and Ancell. Do these have any connection with your lot? I have got back to around 1760 to a William Dauber living in Spilsby at the turn of the 18th / 19th century, but I cannot find where he was born so am stuck and have been for about a year.
