To Chris White .I think I've talked to you before re Arnell Mrs Taylor of Lincoln Rd Branston Father was Lucius but parents parted when she was young so Knows little of background.Remembers her father saying he had been given 3d by John the brewer and said he was a relation An early census shows him in a home or school with lots of other boys. The spelling Dauber first used in our family 1696 christened John Dauber but the rest of family Dawber John christened his eldest JohnDauber but 2nd son Dawber. The next generation all the childrenwere christened the same day Daubers Only the eldest John carried on the U It is interesting that the spelling with u doesn't occer in the Wigan Dawbers. I wonder if we have some connection with the European family who are all DaubersThey were a widespread family prior to war and are jewish though some in U.S.A>have converted. A theory is as followes. One of the kings Henry imported Jews to Lincoln as money lenders as it wasn't legal for Christians. At some stage the populace took to them and they took refuge in Jews House on Steep St. Later they would intergrate with the community and convert. Although several of my family have been in the church and a number of the girls have married Reverends a number have been declared dissenters. The Wigan family has been split by religious differences with parts of families not knowing half brothers etc because they were different religions through remarriage. My earliest records go back to 1521 but its difficult to know who's son is who's they were all called John William or Robert. I have been able to trace most of the descendants from 1700 but one eludes me . Grant Dawber.John Henry Dawber brother of Sir Guy Dawber was drowned in 1915,a surgeon in R.A.M.C.Who's Who records he left a son Grant probably born 1905.Can anyone help me find him?
