Hello Diane,
Since your post was from 1999 I have to assume you probably have found your DAUER lineage? But just in case, I just posted the following to the DOWER forum, and thought I should share it with you too, in case this connected somehow to your line.

Paul A. or J. Dower / Dauer / Dawer b.c. 1851 of Syracuse, New York

Hello Everyone,
I've been a genealogist since 1978...currently I'm working on a dear friend's family tree.
I'm trying to trace the parents and family of:

Paul Dauer who at age 16 immigrated on 8 Oct 1867 from Germany to the United States on the ship "EUROPA" out of the Port of Bremen. This would make him born circa 1851
Was he the same as

Paul Dauer age 29 a cabinet maker, with wife Minnie 29 in the 1880 census of New Haven, New Haven, Connecticut. They had children Anna 7, Mary 6 , Augusta 4 , Ida 2.

And if the two above were the same man (which I belive they were), was he the same as

Paul A. Dawer age 49 b. Feb. 1851 Germany, in the 1900 census of Syracuse Ward 13, Onondaga, New York? This Paul A Dawer was also a carpenter, who immigrated in either 1864 or 1867 depending on which census you read. His wife was Lena born May 1857 Germany. They had children: Pauline, Paul H., Frank W., Ethel M.

In the 1910 census of Syracuse Ward 11, Onondaga, New York Paul J. Dauer, cabinet marker, immigrant 1867, wife Lena, with Paul and Ethel still living at home. What I've learned from the 1910 census is that Paul J. Dauer was married twice, this second time to Lena of 28 years. Doing the math it fits. The child of most interst to me is Paul Henry Dower born 20 Apr 1884 Syracuse, New York.

I would love to hear from any of you who might connect to this family. What's interesting is that in Syracuse, New York there were Dower families from Ireland and Dower families from Germany (same spelling).
Linda Finley Rogers - Fefferman
