Frank....Your gg grandmother had to have been the Aunt Grace that my Grandmother spoke of so often. I have a picture of someone purported to be "Grace and some of her family". It's all women and seems to have been taken in the twenties or thirties.
Grandma, Caroline Grace Harman went by "Grace" and said she was named after her Aunt Grace. Your gg grandmother is the only other Grace I have found in my research except for Hannah Grace's daughter Hattie Grace.
To get to some of your questions....I have the Daughter's line back to William Darter, born about 1680 in England and Margaret Hudson, born 16 Apr 1688 in London, England. And the Hudson's just to Margaret's father, William and mother, Mary ?.
I have Susan Jane's father as Joseph Smith, born 1803 in Dutchess County, New York, and her mother as Hannah Marie Hoyt, born 1805 in Scipio Co., NY. Susan had a sister, Caroline and a brother, Steve that Grandma knew about. She said that they both lived in Tacoma, Washington for a while and that Caroline married somebody named Joslin, that they had a daughter named Rose, who married someone named Burgess. I haven't as yet been able to track down any of these names. Grandma said Steve died in Colton,
California at Aunt Grace's.....do you think this could be correct?
I have a first marriage for James Daughters to Martha Fuller on 28 Dec 1848 in Dearborn Co., Indiana, and his second marriage to Susan Jane Vanderford on 1 Jan 1854, in LaPorte, California, so he had to have come out West sometime in between. Grandma always said that he came out for the gold rush in '49, but whether he came out in '49 or later I don't know. I have no idea what happened with the first marriage or when it ended or if there were any
children or anything like that, but I sure would like to know. Maybe with your help we can find out.
One way or another, we're going to have to get our heads together because it looks like we're researching the same people. If you are interested in my line from Caroline Rizpah on down please let me know, I pretty well have that all nailed down.
A couple of years ago I went to Lakeport and made copies of the death information and some other stuff for James and Carrie. I'll dig them out and see what I have. Probably the easiest way will be to put together what I have and make copies for you.
Hope we can be of help to each other. Helen
