Lorraine: thanks for the update with your information. I am related to Chessons on both sides of my family though not directly. My cousin Howard Gray married Helen Chesson, both from Washington County. And my great uncle on my mother's side married Mattie Bell Chesson from Washington County. My great uncle was George Washington Thomas. He ran a general store in Windsor until some time in the 1930s then moved to Norfolk. I am told, and after visiting the Piney Grove Church am sure, that I am related to everyone buried in the church yard. I am also related to most of the souls buried in the church yard at the Scuppernung Church of Christ. My great grand partents Nancy and William Gray are buried there. My Davenport grandparents are buried in Edenton and my Harrell grandparents are buried in Windsor. Here is a list of last names that I am related to in Washington and Tyrrell counties: Davenport, Gray, Dillon, Norman, Spruill, Tarkington, Furlough, Swain, Sawyer, Owens, Alexander, Lupton, and Chesson. Here are three more that I believe that I am related to but can't prove yet: Worley, Bateman and Overton. The last funeral that I attended in Piney Grove Church was for my uncle Fred Lee Davenport on 7/13/1958. The last of my close relatives in Washington county died in 1970. My first cousin once removed Lewis Manuel Davenport died on 11/19/1970 and is buried in the church yard at Piney Grove. Most of my family lived in Pea Ridge or Cherry. D. Harold Davenport
