Chris,

After you posted the last response I tried to find this family in the census records. A friend who is very good at internet searches helped. There is a Sam Bernett 34 and Sallie 30 in Marion County in 1880. The only children with them are two daughters Bertie 8 and Ruth 3. In 1900 in Jackson Alabama there is a Sarah Burnett 49. With her are Robt. W. Burnett 22 and Emma A. Burnett age not given. Robert's place of birth is Mississippi. The 1910 Jackson County census has Robert W. Burnett 32, Ruth L. 24, Robert L. 6, Earl D. 4, Charles E. 2. Robert was born in Mississippi, both parents were born in Tennessee. The 1920 Jackson County census has Robert W. Burnett 43, Ruth L. 33, Robert 16, Earl 13, Eugene 11, Alma 9, Williams 7, Westley 5, Walker 3, and Margery 1. This census shows Robert and both parents born in Mississippi. We could not find Robert W. in the 1930 Census. His registration card dated Sep. 2, 1918 gives his birth as Nov. 25, 1876. The james Cemetery is online. It gives the dates for Samuel A. Burnett 12-27-1848 - 3-4-1884. George W. and Oma B. Reeves are buried next to him. I will try to get more information on her to see where she was born. If you have access to the Jackson County, AL records you may want to check for a will or estate settlement for Samuel A. Bernett. Does any of your sources have any informatio the family being in Mississippi in the 1870's? Robert is consistent in reporting that he was born there.
