If you trace your family tree to John Davenport (1579-1654) Good luck on going any further. If you simply copy information that is available - you will make a big mistake. I just joined Ancestry.com and the first problem I ran into was looking at One World Tree. These records seem to me like throwing crap onto the wall and recording what falls to the ground. Can anyone help me understand why people keep copying bad information? And, can anyone help me unscramble this mess? The mess follows: Hundreds of trees in One World Tree has the same info from John Davenport on. just copying others works without checking. 1. John Davenport (1579-1654) 2. Richard Davenport (1716-1803) m Alice Goodale (1546-1624) 4. William Davenport (1665-1742) m Ann Edwards (1675-1742) 8. Humphrey Davenport (1630- ) m Rachel Holmes ((1615-1663) 16. Humphrey Davenport (1566-1610 How can the father of John be born 137 years after he was born? How could the gg grandfather of John be born 13 years before John? Just look at the dates. Don't people think when recording genealogy records. Don't they check anything on their own? The reason, in my opinion, so many have adopted this bad data is because to follow the lines of Goodale, Edwards and Holmes, you will find hundreds of ancestors going through royalty and many many famous people. Put another way - if this data is incorrect hundreds of ancestors that follow are not in fact ancestors of John and really screw up lineage records. Can anyone show me if the Goodale, Edwards, Holmes line do in fact branch off the Davenports? Larry Walcutt Notify Administrator about this message?
