Hi Lee, For some reason I think we exchanged some info a long time ago. But, I am a descendant of Chappell Davenport too through his daughter Mary "Polly" who married (1) John Duncan Camden, and (2) Abram North. Chappell Davenport's will dated 13 Nov 1860, probated 28 Feb 1861, lists his grandaughter Emaline Davenport as one of his heirs and that she was to be given an amount equal to his living children. His will lists his friend Joseph H. Shelton as trustee for her until she reached the age of 21. I've never heard anyone mention that he cared for her other than in a financial position. Would be interested in hearing more about that. In 1868 in Nelson County Emaline Davenport, daughter of Sarah Davenport, married Martin V. Campbell, son of Washington and Mary Campbell. It was her first marriage, the second for him. They raised a large family in Nelson County and I believe that both of them are buried in the Campbell/May Cemetery in Nelson County. I have never been able to determine who Emaline's father was since his name is not given in any official records. It is noted that in all official records that she is listed as Emaline Davenport meaning that her mother and father's last name was Davenport, or she was illegitimate. That we may never know! A few years ago I located a male descendant of Chappell Davenports who agreed to take a DNA test. Based on those results I believe that we have finally found Chappell's family! Contact me privately and I'll provide you with additional information and a site where you can find lots of data on the Davenport family. Take care, Sylvia Notify Administrator about this message?
