I am looking for more info. about my 5th great-grandfather, James Madison Davenport, b.1742, Hanover, York Co., Va., d.12-23-1832, Newberry, S.C...he is listed in the DAR Patriot Index..served as a private in Capt. Matthew Jouet's Co. 7 of Virginia in the Revolution.
My great-grandmother used his line to join the National Society Daughters of Founders and Patriots....Her application lists J.M.Davenport's wife as Elizabeth Gilliam;
James Madison Davenport: Son Of: Joseph Davenport Jr. b. 1695 d.? Wife -[second?]Margaret Valentine
Son of: Joseph Davenport Sr. d.1720 - settled at James City County, Va. prior to 1687.
Son of: Lancelott (Lawley) Davenport (Dampert) b.1595
Arrived at James City, Va. on board the ship "Duty" 1626 or before. aka Lanslott Damportt.
