Susan: Do you know the middle name of James D. Davenport and if he owned any land ? I saw a census record for 1850 with a James D.Davenport working as a farm laborer in Tyrrell County. If your James owned land we ought to be able to find him in Tyrrell County records. In my line most of the early men were marriners and owned little or no land and have been hard to trace. Do you know if your James had any brothers? There are a group of us with matching DNA that all have a problem with the period from the end of the Revolutionary War to about 1840 because of Washington County record loses. However, when we can get a firm record in Tyrrell County we have had success. My line is Richard b. 1640 d. 1714- John Sr.d.1749-John Jr d. 1767- Jacob d.by 1795 -John d.1812- William May d.-1838 - James Madison d.1874 - James Doctrine d. 1939 - Earl H d. 1970 -Douglas H Davenport. D. Harold Davenport
