My name is Jônatas Ricardo de Oliveira, from Araçatuba, SP, Brazil. I'd like to get in touch with Davids originaly from Spain, Portugal, Netherlands and Brazil, or people whose ancestors came from these places. My grandmother's maiden name was Anna Alves David, daughter of Antônio Manoel Alves and Rosa Alves David (both were cousins), from Pernambuco state, Brazil. Her grandmother was Jacolina de Oliveira David, who married Joachim Alves David. Our family was originally from Toledo, Spain, with Jewish origin, and due to the Inquisition they fled to Portugal and then to the Netherlands and Brazil in the 17th century. It is said that the first David arriving at the Pernambuco coast was Isaac Stern David, a sub-captain of the Dutch Navy. More David family members might have arrived in Brazil ever since, from Portugal. In Toledo, Spain, their surname was also spelled Bendavid and Abendavid. Abravanel surname also belongs to the same clan. Further information is found at or by reading the book "Dicionário Sefaradi de Sobrenomes" (Sephardic Surnames Dictionary) available at
Best Regards,
Jônatas Ricardo de Oliveira
