My name is Earl David and I am 9th generation descendent of Jean Pierre David dit Saint Michel. Although in my research I have not run across any immediate connections between the David dit Saint Michel and the David dit Pontife families, I have run across your ancestors dit Pontife on a number of occasions. I am responding to your posting to direct you to 2 very good research websites that are available to you in addition to the PRDH website. The first, if you haven't discovered it already in your research, is the Archives Canada France website at This site has imaged over 40,000 original source documents that are available via their website. It takes a while to get familiar with navigating the site but if you are patient and can understand French to some extent it will open up a new world to your research. The second website if your ancestors ever lived at some point at Fortress of Louisbourg, ILe Royale, Nouvelle France, is the Fortress of Louisbourg Archives Research website at I use the Louisbourg website to lead me to original source documents imaged on the Archives Canada France website. Hope this information helps in your research.
