Hi Earl, There were a couple others with the surname David that pioneered Québec, but as far as I can tell their origin is unknown. I did not find any "David dit Saint Michel". I was curious, so I looked it up at PRDH, I must say that I was very surprised at how many carried the "dit"/"aka" name of St. Michel, but none before 1799.

There is also a Jean David-dit-Lacourse. His father was Michel David and his grandfather was Claude David. Claude's origin is unknown in Jette. Jean must have originated the dit name Lacourse.

Thanks for the two web sites. I will give them a try sometime next week. Janet
