Louisa KING or COREN b circa 1843 MO, d 1898 St Louis. Long story, confusing mystery. Who is my great great grandmother Louisa UNKNOWN? Was she born to Thomas and Elizabeth KING in Greene County Missouri 1843-44 and, among other siblings, had a 2 yr younger sister named Martha KING b MO and an older brother named William KING born in Kentucky? Or was she Lulu COREN / CORIN / CORUM from England as shown years later on her son’s death certificate? Or was she born in Missouri as indicated on 1870 census in Springfield, Greene County Missouri. I believe she was born in Missouri. Info so far found shows her as Louisa Unknown WASHBURN DAVIDSON. Who were her parents? Who was her WASHBURN spouse, probably b 1840, d before 1870 no doubt due to the Civil War? Was he a Robert WASHBURN Sr? Who was Samuel DAVIDSON, her last husband? Did she marry Samuel DAVIDSON in Greene County between 1870 and 1890 or did they marry in St Louis Missouri? Was there any connection to the Thomas or Richard WASHBURNs I found in St Joseph, Buchanan County Missouri who were for awhile sewing machine agents, but in St Joseph, they were in the music / piano / instruments business …or to some DAVIDSON’s I also see there in mid to late 1800s? I suspect Louisa and Samuel DAVIDSON married in Greene County, probably in Springfield, and perhaps he was a 3rd husband and she married him as Louisa Unknown Washburn“Sombodyelse Unknown” ….Lots of questions. In 1890 in St Louis City Directory, Louisa DAVIDSON, widow of Samuel is shown at the same address in St. Louis as my great grandfather Robert E. WASHBURN …and she is in my mind obviously his mother. He is in the Music business in St Louis. Both of them are shown at: Location 2: r. 722 S. 6th. Was this as I believe his mother and the address was a 2nd location ….just a business address and they also had a “Location 1” address? Also in 1890 in St Louis MO is a William KING living on 8th street …is he related? Her brother? Louisa DAVIDSON died January 7, 1898 while living on 8th street according to Missouri online data. Louisa’s son Robert E. WASHBURN was born (according to Death Cert) Sept 15 1864, so Louisa could have married in Greene County Missouri to Unknown WASHBURN 1863-64 during Civil War. This son Robert E. WASHBURN, my great grandfather, married #1 wife in 1885 in Greene County, Springfield, Missouri to Anna / Annie MOORMAN and they are divorced there in 1888. I found Louisa WASHBURN on Springfield Missouri 1870 census with her son Robert age 5 living with Martha KING and Martha’s GASSAWAY child. Martha KING’s child was shown as Marshall GASSAWAY, a 12 yr old daughter, so the child was either a son or the name was wrong. Past queries on Martha KING / GASSAWAY turn up confusing information for people researching her …seems she married a cousin, but appears with wrong names on various census. So I also want to know, “Who is Martha KING / GASSAWAY?”Is she Louisa’s sister? No sign so far after 1870 of Louisa … unless …unless she is married to William KING in Greene County. I’ve found some very confusing KING family information. Children of Thomas and Elizabeth KING show daughters named Louisa KING and a younger Martha KING, and an older brother William KING. These KINGs are from Kentucky and are found earlier in Roberson township, Greene County Missouri. There are more than one William KING found not far away and more than one Louisa. Louisa was known to Robert’s 2nd wife Mary Elizabeth only as Lulu COREN (CORIN / CORUM?) from England as that is what Mary indicated on her husband Robert E. WASHBURN’s October 1910 Death Certificate in St Louis City, while they were living on Natural Bridge Road. I thought at first that her name had been written Lulu CORN, but there is another letter that makes it look like COR_N or M. Robert E. WASHBURN’s 2nd wife Mary Elizabeth CAVANAUGH, apparently had no knowledge of his father and little knowledge of his mother. St Louis Missouri composer, musician and music teacher Robert E. WASHBURN and his 2nd wife, singer Mary Elizabeth CAVANAUGH (b 1878MO, d 1963 St Louis, Missouri, were likely married late 1896 or early 1897 in St Louis City Missouri. Mary Elizabeth CAVANAUGH’s STILLMAN and CAVANAUGH families had been living there since mid 1800s. Mary died 1963 in St Louis and I was recently sent a small newspaper clipping where her death was mourned, saying people would miss hearing her beautiful voice. I know only what my mother has told me …that Mary Elizabeth Cavanaugh WASHBURN had a beautiful soprano voice, sang professionally in St Louis Missouri and sang at some St Louis Catholic church, where her husband also played organ. I believe they did not attend the church, but were employed there sometime between 1897 and 1910 when he died. He composed many waltzes, marches and some popular tunes of the era between about 1887 and 1910 that were published in St Louis and I and my siblings have a stack of engraved lead plates of his compositions. Robert and Mary Elizabeth’s firstborn, my grandfather, Robert E. L. WASHBURN was born November 12, 1897 in St Louis City. He had a brother John Louis WASHBURN (married Ruth FRANKE) who died 1955 in St Louis, and a sister Mary Elizabeth who died 1929 in St Louis. Robert E.L. WASHBURN (Jr) died January 1967, Mt Ida, Arkansas, and is buried in Sunset Cemetery, Nacogdoches, Texas where his wife Audrey McLAIN WASHBURN is also buried. My parents were living in Nacogdoches and Audrey McLain Washburn (born Jan 1 1900 Newport, Jackson County Arkansas, died March 15, 1994 Nacogdoches, Texas) moved there soon after her husband’s death. Thanks for any clues to my Louisa UNKNOWN, KING ?, CORUM (etc) WASHBURN DAVIDSON mystery.-----Audrey in TN Notify Administrator about this message?
