Daniel Davis, of Piscataway, NJ, m. Mary Mann/Manning, moved to Bucks Co., PA. 3 sons are identitifed as John, Abel & David. Rev. John Davis m. Jane Van Voorst, Abel m Sarah Griffith and David remained in Bucks Co. following the death of Daniel. By Daniels Will John received 40 acres, Abel received 40 acres and the remaininig land was given to David.
Sarah Griffith was d/o Rev. Timothy Griffith a Presbyterian minister who during the course of events became the owner of 400acres of land that encompassed IRON HILL and the Welsh Tract church at the foot of Iron Hill in Pencader Hundred, New Castle Co. On Timothy's death his wife and ADM sold the land to Abel Davis. Abel & Sarah moved to Pencader Hundred where he bacame a mason and owner of the ore deposits of IRON HILL. Abel & Sarah joined the Welsh Tract Church and particiipated in the incorporation of the Welsh Tract Church. Abel d. testate in 1790 and Sarah in 1796 by which time the land had apparently been devided.
Abel & Sarah were parents of 5 children:Rachel who m.
'John of Abel', b. Newark, DE [1774-1853]may have been related to Abel Davis - perhaps a grandson - d. 22 Jan 1853 Washington, D.C. He moved to Wash D.C. and lived near Benjamin King, Master Blacksmith and was hired by the Washington Navy Yard. They may had been related.
Rev. John Davis was pastor of Winter Run Church Harford Co., MD from 1756-1809. Hannah, d/o Rev John & Jane m. Thomas Alderson.
My ancestor was Benjamin Davis of Loudoun Co., VA who is in some manner related to the Daniel Davis Family. Benjamin is said to have been b in 1712 in Bucks Co., PA to Thomas & Margaret Davis although I find no confirming evidence of such claim. However, members of the Van Voorst fammily resided in White Co., IN where my G4 grandfater, Abel Davis d. in 1847.Abel was s/o Benjamin & Hannah, b. about 1765. He was a cooper by trade as was another Able Davis of East Nantmeal Twp.. Chester Co., PA.Abel of Chester Co. may have been the Abel Davis who joined the London Tract Baptist Church in Chester Co in 1770 which became an independent church in 1780.I hope to find the link between these Davis families.
