I am not familiar with Susannah C. Davis but am very interested in the Davis Cherokee families. My husband's gr gr grandmother Minerva Jane Hardin, Cherokee married Hiram Davis, Cherokee in Hamilton Co. TN ca 1853. This information came from his gr grandmother and is verified by their marriage license.I cannot find them in the 1860 census, but in 1870 Minerva Jane Davis is listed with her children in Metropolis, Ill. Metropolis was the most morthernwater route of the trail of tears. Since the removal was in 1838, it is our believe that they were from the tribe memebers that were in North Carolina and never made the removal. My husband's gr grandmother was contacted in 1904 to go talk to someone about her Indian information. She said she did not trust them, did not like them and did not want anything they had.She did not die until my husband was 20 years old, so he got this first hand.Could you tell me more about your Davis.I know that there seems to be more Davis families in North Carolina than any other last names.
