Hi Fred,
I'm a descendant of Moses H Davis. Thank you for your contributions. This is the first I've heard about David Davis' wife's name as Dorthy or Dorthea. I think I usually see his wife's name as entirely blank on most family trees. Do you have any theories about Dorthy/Dorthea's last name? Possibly a Lovejoy? Any theories on James Davis' (husband of Susannah Orme) parents?
I have a few theories about James' parents but no proof, just guesses really. I have 221 pages of notes from the internet, trees etc. but I'm still up against that brick wall! Unfortunately I live in California so real live research at locations hasn't been much of an option at this point.
I've heard about James' will but haven't seen it. I've also heard the reason James left Kentucky and moved to Rush County, Indiana is that he was "asked to leave" for "being a bit too friendly with a neighbor's wife" I don't know if any of that is true either. It is not part of our family lore, another online cousin of ours seemed to think that was a reason he left. Again, to proof on that theory.
I do know a Ward was sheriff of Greenup County, Kentucky at the time James left, who I believe was a brother of Nicholas Davis' wife Rebecca Ward but I'll have to go back over my copious notes to get specifics on that.
I did just notice from briefly looking at my notes David Ward, who was married to Eleanor Clancy, was the sheriff of Russell Co., VA. This Ward is associated with our Davis line also, but I have been working on other lines recently and am a bit rusty on this one. I'll post a followup to clarify my ramblings here to set the record as straight as soon as possible. I just want to get this out to you now while I'm thinking about it. Thank you again for sharing your research, cousin.

Shirley K
