I don't think that they are lost. I have found your James R Davison in the 1920 census. It says he was 43 yrs old and married to a Hilda probably her nickname. Hilda is 46 years old and they have Perry age 20, Beula age 18, Hazel age 14, Elwood age 12, Odin age 11, and Genva age 7. Probably a few misspelled names on this list but they are living in Marion, Noble Co. Ohio in 1920. It says that James R was born in Ohio. His wife and all children were born in Ohio.
1900 census has this:

Pary Rossiter 73 b Oct 1826 Looks like Alwilda's Dad lives with them in the 1900 census he was born in Ohio and his parents were both born in Penn

Note the misspelling of the last name. I can't tell you how many times my grandmother kept telling me that their last name was not Davidson but people just wouldn't spell it the way they told them to spell it.
Now all you have to do is go backwards from Pary or Perry Rossiter b Ohio 1826 his parents were from Pennsylvania and you will have started a nice family tree.
