Hi Timothy:

Thank you for your kind words and I apologize for not responding sooner. I would like to return the compliment and thank you for your excellent work and for the information you provided on the Caledonia. The information you provided is very helpful and I really appreciate it.

Without a passenger list or ship's manifest, I don't know if I will ever be able to determine if William Davison arrived on the Caledonia or the Henry and Francis. There are Davison researchers who are adamant that the ship was the Henry and Francis and others just as adamant that the ship was the Caledonia. Unfortunately, I have yet to find anything truly supportive of either ship as his arrival ship as most information as to the ship W.Davison arrived on is through different family recorded memory recollections or assumptions since W.Davison married Margaret Oliphant whose brother, William, was on the Henry and Francis as a result of being a prisoner in several tolbooths in Scotland. During a trip to Scotland a couple of years ago, I did visit the Edinburgh Tolbooth where this William Oliphant was imprisoned but I did not have the time to do much researching.

Your confirmation of what I found that the Caledonia and the Henry and Francis sailed within a week of each other helps support the fact that he could have sailed on either ship. Do you have any other information on the Caledonia's departure from Scotland during late August 1685 that would give me some leads as to its arrival, passengers, cargo? I will research more of the Campbells arrival on the Caledonia in hopes of getting some leads through their arrival.

I do agree that there has been some confusion with the Henry and Francis and the Caledonia and the Caledonia's early trips and its fate in 1715. There is also confusion with the Caledonia and Captain Anderson, one of the Caledonia's captains. History of Old Tennent Church, page 417, "John Anderson...commanded the Caledonia on her first trip to this county in 1698." This statement was leading me to believe that there were two Caledonia ships during the same time period. I do believe now that this statement is in error. History of Old Tennent Church also indicates Anderson captained the Unicorn during the Darien expedition.

Thank you for taking the time to provide me with the additional information It has been most helfpul. Susan
