Our family this past year discovered that our Grandmother / Mother was sent to a home for (we believe to a home for unwed mothers) in Linwood Kansas apx. 1930 where she gave birth to a boy.
The child was taken at birth and adopted out. We have found out that at the time our Grandmother whose name was Hazel May Davisson, later married and became Hazel May Higdon. (Daughter of George Washington Davisson, and Nora May Godfrey Davisson) had no choice at that time and was forced to adopt out her child. The baby was taken right after birth. A boy we were told.
She had always wondered about this child, and now two half brothers, one half sister, and numerous nephews and nieces also wonder. We are starting a search to try and locate this child. We do not know if he even knows he was adopted or if he has searched for his birth mother. We know the Fathers last name was Clark, and that he paid for the adoption. (Known as Banker Clark from the town of Kirk, Colorado)
We know the year was between 1929 -1931 but believe it to be 1930. Hazel was born in 1912 and was 18 years old at the time. The Adoption took place in Linwood Kansas at a home for unwed mothers. She had stayed up until the birth at the home of Thomas Jefferson Godfrey, her Grandfather, in Linwood, Kansas. Any help would be apprecieated. Thank you
Stephen Schneider, grandson of Coyle and Hazel Davisson Higdon
