I was very interested in your inquiry on this forum re the Davern name.
My great grandfather was John Davern and he came from County Tipperary according to details on his record.
John was a convicted felon and sent to Van Diemans Land, now Tasmania an island state of Australia.
His record shows that he was tried at Limerick 21 Oct 1848, he arrived in Tasmania 19th March 1851.
His mothers name was Kathleen, brothers Thomas, William, James, sisters, Honor, Kathleen and Nancy, his wife was Margaret but she did not follow and he later married, Mary Anne Fitzgerald in Tasmania.
I have in the past been to Ireland and met a William Davern at Hospital, but although he was very helpful we could not find any real solid evidence that our families were related.
I would be very interested to hearing from you.
