David C. Dawsey/Dorsey (I've seen it both ways) was born around 1800 in Waccamaw County, South Carolina according to one record and Alabama according to another record. He married Emily Goodson McQueen Sept. 27, 1831 in Lowndes Court, AL. She was married to John McQueen first who died. We don't know when David died. He was living in Hancock County Mississippi at the time. I don't even know where he is buried. The part of our genealogy research I question is David's father. Our cousin that did most of the research "assumes" James Dawsey/Dorsey is his father because James had an infant son on the 1800 census in South Carolina. James lived next door to McQueens. We think most of the Dorseys died because they were not on the next census and maybe that's why David went with the McQueens to Alabama. Emily had 3 sons by John and 10 children with David. James Dawsey/Dorsey's father was Joshua Dorsey. Joshua's father was John. John's father was Joshua who was Edward Dorsey's son. My father's mother was Nellie Dawsey. It's complicated. My father's mother died when he was born and his uncle Putnam Dawsey adopted him. My father has been dead 6 years. There is only one of Nellie's sons left living and he is very ill. If the DNA only goes from male's our Dawsey was a female. Where does your family work in this? And can you help me connect David to James "officially"? Where are you located? I'm in Louisiana but my family is in Mississippi.
