Rebecca/Ann Rebecca Day b. 1790 VA
There is some confusion that I have found on Rootsweb and Ancestory.com concerning Rebecca Day and Anna Rebecca Day,both being stated born 2 Feb 1790 Charlotte County, Virginia.Both being married to the same men: James Johnson, Archer Gray Herndon, and Richard Thomas Waldron.They are actually two different women.I know nothing about Anna Rebecca Daybut have researchedon the Day line that has Rebecca Day.
Rebecca Day's parents were Edward Day b. 1760 Charlotte County, Virginia acccording to his pension, actually it would of been Lunenburg County as Charlotte County was not formed till 1764 he d. 1837 DeWitt County, Illinois.Ursula Sublette b. 1758 is her mother.This Rebecca Day married James Johnson 13 Mar 1806 Lincoln County, Kentucky.She married Archer Gray Herndon 9 Mar 1817 Green County, Kentucky.Archer and Rebecca had William 1818 Green County, Kentucky; Elliiot 1820 Madison County, Illinois; Archer, Jr. 1825 Sangamon County, Illinois; Nathaniel 1827 Sangamon County, Illinois.
Excerpts from the book Lincoln's Herndon;
Talking about Archer Herndon; "When the war of 1812 broke out..........upon his return to Green County, Kentucky, he married an attractive widow, Rebecca Day Johnson........................In 1820, Archer Herndon sold his property (in Kentucky), packed his belongings, and father, mother and two year-year-old child, accompanird by Rebecca Herndon's parents, set out to seek greener pastures.Illinois was the great country of the future, and Archer Herndon headed for Madison County,....... "
Excerpt from the book Early Settlers of Sangamon County;
"Archer G. Herndon, Sen., was engaged in mercantile pursuits, from 1825 to 1836, in Springfield, and during that time erected the first regular tavern in town. He was one of the "Long Nine" who were instrumental in having the capital removed from Vandalia to Springfield, having been elected State Senator in 1836. He was receiver of public moneys, from 1842 to 1849, in the Land Office, in Springfield. A. G. Herndon, Sen., died Jan. 3, 1867, and Mrs. Rebecca Herndon died Aug. 19, 1875, both in Springfield, Illinois."
This Rebecca Day could not of married married the third man, Richard Thomas Waldron on Mar 17, 1818 in Warren County, North Carolina---she was already married to Herndon.In the gedcoms I found that has her married to all three-some had also listed all the children for the marriages and I would of thought it would of raised guestions.Gedcoms stated she had both first born sons for Herndon and Waldron in 1818;William Herndon25 Dec 1818 Green County, KentuckyandNareissa Waldron b: Abt 1818 in Tazwell County, Virginia.The gedcoms go on to mention the rest of Herndon's children and then the next 11 Waldron children born 1820 to 1838 in Virginia.As you can tell from excerpts above it was not possible.
The gedcoms state Anna Rebeccadied Jan 1860 in Mercer County, West Virginia.Rebeccca died Aug. 19, 1875, Sangamon County, Illinois.
Excerpt from an article called "Pioneering" Apr 1867:
"We were none of us likely to forget it,' said the dignified Virginian, from her invalid's seat by the fire."We had to go ninety miles to mill at first, and thought ourselves fortunate when it came to only fourty."You can see Rebecca was still alive to give an interview in 1867 and her last name was Herndon as it wasWilliam Herndon that was being interviewed.
Rebecca Day and Anna Rebecca Day are two different individuals and the gedcoms need to be corrected.
