•Name: Thomas Muse
•Sex: M
•Birth: ABT. 1785 in Virginia
•Death: BET. 1846 - 1850 in Pulaski County Kentucky
•Burial: Pulaski County, Kentucky
•Note:
Thomas Muse first show up in Pulaski County Kentucky in the 1810 census with Father Richard and probable brother Isaac. Thomas is a proven son of Richard and was named in his will. The following was extracted from Richards will located in Will Book #3 at the Pulaski County Courthouse Ky. "Item I give and bequeath to son Thomas Muse my riding mare and saddle and one hundred and thirty five dollars in money to him and his heirs forever" end quote.
Thomas's household was missed in the 1830 and 1840 census of Pulaski but based on the birth of John Muse it is possible that he was in Virginia during one of two census.
Thomas's exact death date is unknown, however based on his letter of consent (Pulaski Co urthouse) for Janice(Jane) Muse to marry Henry Floyd on April 1, 1846 we placed it between 1846-1850.
The children of Thomas are proven through two separate deed records, with exception to those he also consented in writing to marry. These deeds recorded in Deed Book 14 page 208-210 located at the Pulaski County Courthouse Ky.
The marriage of Thomas Muse to Elizabeth Day is recorded in the early marriage records Pulaski Co. in the form of a copy of the original handwritten bond to include a copy of the original handwritten consent of Elizabeth to marry Thomas signed by Francis Day. Surety on the bond was Nathaniel Forbes.

SOURCES FOR INFORMATION Kentucky descendants of John Muse Sr. was extracted and researched from the below listed sources.
SOURCE #1 Mary Hope West and Juliet Faunleroy published articles in The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Volume 53,Issue: #2, #3,and #4 (April, July and October 1945). "The Muse (Mewes) Family of the Northern Neck of Virginia" This information has withstood the test of time.
SOURCE #2 "Richard Muse of Wythe Co. Va. and Pulaski Co. Kentucky" Unpublished. Written, Researched and Compiled By: Lou Andrew Murphy-"A Noted Muse Genealogist" She provides information you can trust as reliable and proven or otherwise states it requires further research.
SOURCE #3 Court records copied or transcribed from the Adair Co.,Casey Co., Pulaski Co., Russell Co. and Wayne Co. Court houses in Kentucky. Information was retrieved from Marriage Records, Bond Books,Court Order Books, Will Books, Estate Settlement Books, Commissioner Deed Books and unbound or unrecorded documents. Best source of first-hand Information we found.
SOURCE #4 "A Southern Legacy Book I & II: Descendants of John Muse of Virginia" A Privately Published Manuscript compiled by Dr. Roger David Chambers in collaboration with Lou Andrews Murphy and Robert T. Muse. This is compiled information using all sources outlined here. A great reference forlater generations of John Muse Sr.
SOURCE #5 Kentucky GenWeb under USGenwebProject on the Internet. Some of the Information contained here is transcribedfrom county information. Our physical research in Kentucky did reveal any major variances in the information disclosed on this Internet site. The only exception is if it could not be found in a County book and was a loosebound record, like marriages then it was not found on the Internet and the only way to get this information was to physically research County Courthouse in question.
SOURCE #6 Church of the Latter Day Saints, Internet. We found these records to be informative and used them as clues to do our research, however the information provided here is submitted by individuals and we have found numerous records on our family to be incorrect.
SOURCE #7 Death records. Here again we found errors but used them as a search engine. Records of this nature, are usually filled out by family members; with or without all of the facts. I know this, because I am guilty of this on my Mothers Death Certificate.
SOURCE #8 Social Security Applications of Deceased Persons. Good Source for information. Considered first hand information disclosed by individual when he or she filled out the application.
SOURCE #9 Family records. A good source, but not always correct due information could have been recorded years after the fact. When and if we used this type of information we matched it with information from other lines or other documents to see if it carried any merit. In some cases this information checked out and we called it Family rememberances and if it didn't we called it family folklore.
SOURCE #10 Muse Family Archives, Aberdeen Maryland. This Archive is under the direction of Robert T. Muse. It contains informal and formal genealogy information on the Muse surname. This is another good source of information.
SOURCE #11 Federal Archives, Southern Region, Atlanta Georgia.Great place to start your research or during. Census records after theyear 1840, contain a wealth of information on the individual and it is the closest thing to first hand knowledge of the past, other than courtrecords. Census records of 1900 disclosed birth months and Year.
SOURCE #12 "Hopkins of Virginia And Related Families" Written by Walter Lee Hopkins, Published by J.W. Fergusson & Sons, Richmond,Virginia 1931. Another good source of information, that has stood the test of time.
SOURCE #13 Social Security data Base of Deceased Persons. Internet.
SOURCE #14 Kentucky Death Records, KYGenWeb Project. Internet. List date of deaths, place, age at time of death and Certificate #

•Note:
PARENTAGE OF THOMAS In West & Fauntleroy's research they state as a matter of fact that Thomas Muse was son of John, "Thomas; of whom hereafter" and then state that Ann was a probable daughter. The only evidence I found in their works was in Vol. 53, Issue 4, Page 312, "Virginia Magazine of History and Biography". In this issue they referenced a deposition from Richmond Co. Va. made by Samuel Templeman 31 December 1831. This deposition concerned the bounty warrant papers of Richard Muse Jr.
I quote. " I Samuel Templeman of the said county, aged nearly seventy-four years, do hereby testify on oath that I was well and intimately acquainted with Richard Muse(Jr) from a youth until his death, having been born and raised in the same neighborhood. (Further in the deposition he states) He married a Miss Strother of King George County, by whom he had the following children, Catherine who married James Hackney, Alexander P. Muse, Fanny, Harriet, Elizabeth, Richard(III),Henry, Lucy, and Meridith Muse, the most of the children I was well acquainted. I further state upon oath, that I was well acquainted with Meredith Muse the brother of Richard Muse(Jr) who live with Thomas Muse on the eastern shore of either of Maryland or Virginia." end quote. To better explain the above quote, John Muse and Mary Sanford hadson's, Richard and Thomas. Richard Muse (son of John) and wife Margaret(Payne-Muse)Muse they had a son named Richard Jr. and Meredith and Richard Jr Muse who married Elizabeth Strother had sons named Richard III and Meredith (namesake to great Uncle) The Meredith that is stated to be living with Thomas would the son of Richard brother to Thomas. So in the above statement of Samule Templemen identifies the Wife and all of the children of Richard Jr., which does not include a Thomas Muse but places Meredith, Richard Jr.'s Brother in Thomas's household. So Thomas would have to have been an Uncle to Meredith for West and Fauntleroy to state that Thomas was a son of John. Other information that can not be ignored and can not be pure coincidence is that Thomas named one of his sons Richard and the other Thomas Sanford Muse. The name Sanford can be traced back to his mothers surname, Sanford.

CHILDREN OF THOMAS The children of Thomas Muse and Sarah Chattin are proven by Thomas'sWill, dated 20 October 1754 and proved 16 May 1755 in Christ Church Parish, Upper Precinct of Lancaster County Va.
" To Wife Sarah, whole estate during her widowhood and should she marry then what the law allows in such cases; "my two little sons Richard and Thomas Sanford Muse attend to be maintained out of the properties of my estate and school'd". executors wife Sarah, John Hill and John Hill Jr."
