I just came across the following in “The New York genealogical and biographical record” by Richard Henry Greene, et al.
29 July, 1665, I Sir Edmund Plowden of Wansted, co. Southhampton, Knight, Lord Earle Palantine, Governor and Captaine Generall of the Province of New Albion in America, and peere of the Kingdome of Oreland, being perfect health of body. ………… I appoint as my Trustee for the planting, fortifying, peopling and stocking of this my Province of New Albion, Sir William Mason of Grey’s Inn, Knt., who shall summon all my undertakers to transplant thither and there to settle their number of men which such estate yearly can transplant, namely, Lord Mason, 50; Lord Sherrard, 100; Sir Thomas Danby, 100; Captain Batts his heir, 100 [Captain John Batte his heir, 100]; Mr. Eltonhead, a master in Chancery of the Crown, 40; Captaine Cleybourne in Virginia, 50; …….
