Several trees on Ancestry.com put forward that Harriet Hubbard was the daughter of William Hubbard and Martha Mahala Waddell of Anderson, SC. If so, she was my 4th great aunt. I know that William and Martha did in fact have a daughter named Harriet, but she was married to Francis Wilton Earle on September 28, 1859, and appears with him in the US Census of 1860. M. V. B. Deadwyler's gravestone shows that he died in 1862, after Hattie's marriage to Mr. Earle. So if these Harriet Hubbards are the same woman, what happened to her marriage to Mr. Deadwyler? Were they divorced?

John Henry, son of Harriet and Martin Van Buren Deadwyler, died young. Harriet's two children by Mr. Earle also died young. Harriet's death, circa 1865, is mentioned in the journals of Emmala Reed.
