David nice to hear from you.If you are in the J-2 haplogroup, then as far as I can tell, your Deans and my Deans will not be related.Mine are in the R-haplogroup, with my cousin being subject 3-B.
May I ask why you think you belong to the Edgefield and later Campbell/Carroll/Haralson Co. GA etc group? As you are probably aware of, if a male child was adopted, took the surname of a family he was raised with, or if he was illegitimate, then he would not match any of the other Deans, as his father would not have been a Dean. But, it's possible his mother was a Dean, especially if he was illegitimate. So even though he wouldn't carry the male Dean DNA, he would still have been a Dean descendant, just as much as any other Dean descendant of that grouping.
That may be why the J haplogroup doesn't match other Dean groupings???
I would like to compare notes with you, just in case.Contact me at: [email protected]
Here is the info. on my group from family tree DNA:
"Subjects 1Y, 1Z, 2C, 2G, 2I and 3B.FTDNA has predicted that these six subjects probably belong to the R1b1b2 haplogroup. The 37/37 matches among subjects 1Y, 2C and 2I indicate a very recent common ancestor for the three of them.Conventional genealogy indicates their ancestry probably converges in the Edgefield District, SC.The 36/37 match between the three of them and subject 3B and the 35/37 match between the three of them and subject 1Z indicate mutations which occurred after subject 3B's and subject 1Z's line branched off.The 34/37 match between subjects 1Y, 2C and 2I and subject 2G indicates the common ancestor between the three of them and subject 2G probably occurs further back in time.Conventional genealogy indicates this may have been in colonial Virginia. These six subjects do not share a recent common ancestor with any of the other subjects in the surname project"
