Recently I received, via snail mail, a copy of "The Joel Dean Family of Berlin Twp., Ionia Co., Michigan" which was found in the public Library in Ionia. My interest in a Joel Dean comes from the will of my Daniel Matthew Dean who made a will on 26 August 1845 (he died late 1846 or early 1847 in Saint Thomas, London District, Ontario, CAN). In this will he made a bequest of 5 pounds to Joel Dean but Joel is not listed as a son as are those I know to be his sons - yet no relationship mentioned. Yet Joel is among those children in the Bible records (found also in Michigan) of Daniel Matthew Dean, but Joel is at the end of the will with people mentioned like Harriet Degroates ..... who took care of Daniel during his long illness. Joel was born 03 April 1816 (bible) and died 09 Sept 1864 in county of Ionia, Michigan. He was md. to Maria Ware who died 19 July 1904. Does this Joel tie into the family of Joel and Hannah (Weston) Dean in any way; if so - how?; or are there more Joel Deans running around than I am aware of and it is a common Dean name for a certain Dean branch? What does Joel have to do with my Daniel Matthew Dean? Once I began to research Deans in Ontario Canada and in Michigan (those born in Canada) it was a bit overwhelming and I discovered they were not all related.... unfortunately my Dean line still remains unsolved back to whomever was Daniel's immigrant ancestor and mine.
