This is an interesting topic. I just recently took an autosomal DNA test and I was surprised by the lack of French origins in my profile. My grandfather was a D'Armond and I have been pondering the idea that the name was actually Irish. I have a large bit of Irish DNA which does not surprise me as there are known lines from Ireland.
DNA seems to point to Ireland.
