The following is a letter written by Maurice Hamner Garland of Lynchburg, Virginia to Harry Beverley Deas of St. Louis, Mo. in response to a request for family history. It is the first time I have seen actual dates for the birth and marriage of General John Garland. It also lists his children. The first section is the letter to Deas; the second was the sheet filled with family input. MAURICE HAMNER GARLAND TO HARRY B. DEAS Mr. Harry B. Deas St. Louis, Mo. D Sir Your of the 26th ult. with letter of Spotswood Garland and blank genealogical paper came duly in hand but mission of business taking me several times from home – has occasioned this delay in responding to your request for information in regard to your “Garland” connection.
