My mother's maiden name is Deas. You are correct that the spelling was altered several times. The family came over from Scotland/England in the mid 1600's as best we can trace. It's been awhile since i've looked at my charts, but I believe this was William Dees. (There were SEVERAL William Dees's in my line alone!) One of my Dees ancestors fought in the Revolutionary war. Apparently, they came to Alabama and Georgia from Virginia and South Carolina. The details here are vague in my memory, as it has been awhile since I have looked at the work we did on this branch. If you have questions, or think I can help you, please contact me. Btw, my Deas relations currently live in Clarke Co., AL. I am in Montgomery, AL .
