My immigrant ancestor was Johann Michael Dieterich, b.1729 in Oberlenningen, Wuerttemberg, Germany. Emigrated to US in
1748 on ship Hampshire at Philadelphia.
Upon arrival he changed his name to Deeter.
Those of his children who lived among the English spelled their name Teeter, and those who lived in German communities spelled teir name Deeter.
